Ponte de Lima to Rubiaes (Alto da Portela Grande)

It was a positively glorious day. I set off this morning with Bill, his lovely wife, Jen and Steve.

Shortly after we began trekking through a beautiful path, we encountered a patch that was flooded.

I love my Salomon boots, my feet remained dry even though I tred through the water. On the other side of the water we came upon Marie wringing out her socks. Obviously she didn’t have Salomon boots.

Onwards we tread, stopping to take photos and generally just having a grand old time bantering back and forth.

The scenery was unbelievable today, mostly all natural paths.

And then we came upon the climb up to Alto de Portela Grande.  We all stopped at a cafe at the foot of the mountain, had a drink and a snack. We all purchased sandwiches to go along with us up the mountain.

Bill, Steve and I went ahead while Jen and Marie followed behind. The climb was steep and in parts we found ourselves rock scrambling.

The climb reminded me of O Cebreiro on the Camino Frances.  But this time I tackled it with a gusto that even amazed me. I felt incredibly strong today and even as I write this blog I still feel strong and I am positively looking forward to tomorrow when we will walk into Spain.

  3. It sounds like so much fun. Which Salmon boots? I have Salmon Elios which I LOVE so much that I got a second pair. However, the first ones were not truly waterproof. Haven’t really tested the new ones in the wet. I decided comfort was the only criteria. I hope your beautiful weather continues!
