Day 34 – Santiago de Compostela

image

Well I made it! Walking into the square was a very emotional moment for me, emotional and painful. But I walked every step of the Way.

I walked this Camino dedicated to my first husband, the father of my children. I carried prayer requests for friends to St. James and placed many stones and additional prayers on the cairns along the way.

I will forego my plans to walk to Finisterre and Muxia this time due to the stress and strain to my knee. I will be returning to the States tomorrow, Tuesday October 22.

It is now time for healing and letting the Camino affect the changes it will.

Have a great visit with your family. See you soon and can not wait to hear of your journey in person. As you recuperate may the memories of the Camino uplift you and give you pause to reflect on what you have accomplished………

I believe that the city of Santiago de Compostela is emotional for everyone that visits there. I know that I felt emotional when we were there not just because of the religious connection but the age of the buildings. If those walls and stones could only talk.

    • Hi Clare,
I’m taking a few days with my kids and grands, but surely I will continue blogging. Lots of changes happened while on Camino, just have to get my head around them before I can write them.

You made it and in good spirits. The continuous rain dampened mine. You are a trooper . Congratulations.

Again, we miss each other. Leaving Palm Springs today and spending the night with a friend in Tucson tonight.

    Safe travels. Vaya Con Dios.

  18. What an accomplishment Arlene – you have much to be proud of and much to get in touch with as you return to life as you knew it! Your words here on your last day, and reading the note and who you did this for, gave me chills……………..Cannot wait to talk to you at some point…..get home safe and enjoy relaxing with family for a while before you return to Arizona!

  20. Congratulations Arlene – to walk every step of The Way to Santiago, particularly when, towards the end, you were in pain, is so very wonderful. It makes the pain all worth while. (I unknowingly had a Grade 4 femoral stress fracture when I walked into Santiago so I can really sympathise with you – tremendous pain but I was determined to walk every step, and I did).
I really hope that your knee settles down and heals quickly.
I wish you a quiet and tranquil time so you can drift off with your thoughts in whatever direction they take you in acknowledging and processing all that has come up for you on your Camino.
It’s been a privilege to follow your journey –
