Making my Way to the Way 9-15/16-2013 & 9-17-2013

The morning started out with me arriving at airport TSA screening. I kept beeping when walking through the screening arches. Took off the Road ID, still beeped, took off the Garmin, still beeped, took off the money belt, still beeped. There was nothing left so I had to go through a pat down. Of course I was cleared to go on.

The first flight to Houston arrived with not much time to make my connection.  I ran to the train thing and made it to Terminal E just in time to get on the connecting flight.

For the next flight out of Newark,  NJ there was a 3 hour layover. I had time to get some orange juice and a muffin and relax a bit before the overnight to Madrid.

I was able to catch a couple of hours sleep on the flight to Madrid.  I arrived, walked through Customs and collected my backpack. There was an 8 hour layover till my flight to Logrono.

The flight to Logrono was only 30 minutes long. I got a taxi to my hotel and collapsed into bed.

This morning I got up at 8 am, had breakfast at the hotel and finally began walking the Camino by 10 am.

The day was cloudy with a light breeze. I walked from Logrono to Ventosa in 6 hours – 11.8 miles/19 kms.

Tonight I am staying in Hotel Las Aguedas.  GREAT NEWS! I will be returning to Ventosa to create a mural on their garden wall most likely next year.

  5. Hi Arlene –
‘Great to hear that you arrived safe and sound after that mammoth ‘trek’ over from the US. The serenity of The Way must be such a balm to you after all those flights and the long layover in Madrid.
It’s wonderful that the mural is very likely to happen for next year too. Congratulations!
The photos are fabulous! The first photo with the stormy skies and tree could be a painting – beautiful.
Wishing you joy in every moment and in every step –

  7. Arlene – you’ve started!! Fabulous!!

And beautiful photos, especially the first one. Can you turn off your time stamp though on your camera?

How are the crowds? And I’m curious to know what you did for the 8 hr layover in Madrid. Did you stay in the airport, or did you get out into the city?

It’s great now that we can follow you!!
