It has been brought to my attention by my friend Judee that I have not once mentioned her in my blog – so right now I will correct the fact that I may have led some readers to believe I am travelling alone. I have travelled to North Carolina to visit Judee and we both travelled to Charleston, Savannah, Tybee Island and then back to Asheville. I will remain here in Asheville with Judee for another week. We will tour the Biltmore Estate and drive to the nearby towns to see the sights there.
Yesterday morning we checked out of the beautiful new boutique hotel on the River (The Cotton Sail Hotel) in Savannah and drove onto Tybee Island. Once we got on the Island, we had breakfast in this all-American diner type place.
It was truly a greasy spoon! Being a person who doesn’t really like eggs, I had hash browns with vegetables and sausage. Half way through my breakfast I realized I had eaten enough greasy food to last a lifetime – the coffee wasn’t much better, typical diner coffee (very weak and tasteless). Oh well.
After breakfast, we drove through the village, parked the car at the end of a street when we came upon this intriguing boardwalk.
At the end of the boardwalk, there it was – sand dunes and ocean and completely empty. I walked down to the waters edge and took a few pictures.
I think by now y’all know how much I love the ocean, so I will spare you the details of my feelings while on the beach. We returned to the little village and purchased some tee shirts and sweat shirts then again walked down to the beach, this time to the main beach in the center of town.
We then drove to the lighthouse
And then in search of a decent cup of java. We found a little coffee shop tucked away down a side street where a few other artists had shops.
But the high point of the day was lunch. We stopped in a place just over the bridge from Savannah called the Crab Shack.
The food was fabulous and the place was funky and fun! A very nice end to a great road trip with a friend!!
