Yoga Teacher Certification

One of my goals for 2017 was to obtain certification as a Teacher of Yoga.

Yoga has been an important part of my everyday for some years now. During my last Camino tour in July of 2016, my Yoga teacher was one of my clients. She encouraged me to pursue teacher training. The seed was planted!

I signed up for training in, of all places, Paradise Island in the Bahamas for February, 2017. This training was an immersion course. Forty-five students were put through what might be called a Yoga Boot camp for 28 days.

I was the oldest student in the class (need I tell my age?) the youngest student turned 21 during the month we were training. Every one of us mastered the asanas and I am proud to say ‘I held my own’.

The philosophy teachings were a bit challenging as most of the teachings were based in the Sanskrit language, but we all assimilated the knowledge more than we imagined we could.

On March 2, 2017 we sat for our final exam which was 60 written questions with 3.5 hours to complete. Amazingly all of the students passed the exam and graduation night was fabulous.

We all celebrated in our own way. The next day, I celebrated with a Mojito with Jacob, the youngest student at the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island.

Going forward I will be bringing Yoga to all my Choose Happiness Adventure Tours.

In the future I  will be offering Yoga Retreats in special locations such as Cape Cod, the Hamptons, Tuscany and Provence hopefully with several of my fellow students from the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat assisting me.

Congratulations, Arlene. That is a wonderful accomplishment. I was never good at yoga as I am not flexible, and my hips are not ‘turned out’ so I can’t sit in the yoga position… I’ve tried..

    Best wishes,

    Kristina

    • Ah Christina, all is possible if only we desire it to be so. But fret not, you do many other things that are not attainable to others.
I will be in Tucson this summer and hope to see you while I am there.

    • Thanks Bill,
At times it was not easy, but I always knew I would succeed. I suppose that determination is inherent in most of us born under the sign of the Bull.
Love to both you and Jen, hope to see you sometime in the future.

  6. Arlene,
So glad you made it but really didn’t have any doubts. You already knew so much about Yoga. It will be a great addition to the Camino tours you do.

    • Lynda,
It is the confidence of my friends that helps me succeed. After all, I would be too embarrassed to fail when so many are pulling for me.

    • Britta,
I am hoping the clients on my tours will be accepting of yoga, I plan to offer it to all who wish to join in. I truly believe the stretching before beginning the daily walk will help them as well as after the day is done. You would be surprised at how many people just jump up and start walking – that might work for the 20 somethings but not those older.

  9. Congratulations Arlene! This is a wonderful achievement and the fact that you are now a teacher means you’ll be able to help so many people. Yoga is for EVERYONE – not many exercise disciplines can say that, can they? Life is richer with yoga – the holistic approach of yoga brings balance to our lives.
Best, best wishes and Camino hugs –
