Last night I walked 3 kms up to the lighthouse to watch the sunset. For some reason I had the idea the 00.0 mark of the Camino would be a very special, quiet moment for pilgrims.
As I got closer and closer to the lighthouse the atmosphere seemed to turn to that of a major tourist attraction. There were cars parked this way and that and it seemed as though hundreds of people were milling around.
I found a place to sit on a stone wall near the lighthouse to watch the sunset. It was pretty but I have to say quite anti-climatic.
But today has been marvelous. I walked to the beach, gathered some shells, romped in the sea and lay in the sand. One of the nicest things I experienced today was a young peregrino running along the beach happy because he had arrived at the end of his Camino.
After the beach, I lunched at a seaside cafe on grilled fish and a wonderful Albarino wine. Jonathan Livingston Seagull was my luncheon companion today 🙂
The grand finale I guess. Congratulations.

It’s interesting how our expectations sometimes dim the experience. The sunset is lovely.

Anticlimatic seems to be the word you are looking for. I felt that way when I got to Ferro Crucio (Iron cross) on the Frances route. There were tourist and it was not peaceful for me. I began to realize that peace was found inside and not out with the toursts. I was able to enjoy the tourist milling around but inside I knew what I had accomplished and you should too. The end of the world and 4 Caminos walked; what a finish. Great photos. I liked the joy on the expression of the guy jogging on the beach.

Hi Arlene, I enjoyed both of your Caminos very much. So what’s next? Did you find your Casa Rurale? Suseya Ingrid

Ingrid,
I’m not sure what is next.
This Camino seems to be directing me back to the seashore. Funny thing because I grew up on the water. I feel a strong pull to get back to the ocean and out of the desert SW.

Actually, the word is anticlimactic… but it doesn’t look it. It looks like a beautiful end and a beautiful sunset! But I know what you mean.
I’ll be there soon! Brava, Arlene!

It might be the end of a camino, but the beginning of something – listen to what your soul is saying at this time!
