Day 4 – 7 August 2014 Betanzos to Casa Julia

Another day that kept throwing hills my way.  It was up, then down and up again.  Some of the hills were quite steep, but the scenery was beautiful.  Today’s walk, once out of Betanzos was through rural Galicia.   Galicia to  me is a very beautiful place!

Again, the temperatures were nice but a bit humid.  At one point it sprinkled a bit, but that was refreshing – I used my pack cover, but never put on my rain jacket.

I walked almost 18 km to  the Bar Julia, where the barkeep telephoned Meson Novo to come and pick me up.  Tomorrow the driver from Meson Novo will taxi me back to Bar Julia and I will walk back to Meson Novo for my second night at that hotel.

Today was the first day I encountered more pilgrims.  In fact several groups of young pilgrims passed me along the trail.

I know this is a pilgrimage but it looks like you are having a fabulous time. The scenery is gorgeous – the mountains, hills, creeks and the beaches! All beautiful! In your top picture it looks like some of those homes are made of wood. We commented several times that no wood was used in Spain to build the homes. They were all built to last and made from stone, stucco and such. Are there homes made from wood in the areas you are traveling or are my eyes deceiving me? We are so longing to be back on the Camino. How’s the food on the Ingles?

  5. Arlene, I’ve just come home from a 22 km walk in the “wilds of Toronto”, lol. Some of the pics I took remind me so much of the Camino, from the steep stony ascents to the slippery descents and then walking along rivers and ultimately the city walk (just like walking into any major city on the camino) to the lake and back where we started. I prefer what you do, always moving forward…. that will have to wait until next year. Ultreya! Ingrid
